BOOK REVIEW: This version of The
Bear Went Over The Mountain, illustrated by Sylvia Ion,
is unique in that the whimsical illustrations alone tell an
additional visual story. The mountain is actually a mound
of patchwork quilt under which a child restlessly sleeps just
before dawn. As the mound twists and turns, the teddy bear
is pulled up over the mountain. As the bear reaches the
top, it pauses to view the other of the mountain and then slides
down to the floor. At this point in the picture-story it
is discovered that the smiling sun is actually a globe lamp
beside the bed watching over the event.
